Guidelines for Safe Contact Lens Wear
Contact Lenses can offer comfortable, healthy vision without glasses but as they are a medical device they can be associated with sight threatening infections. The contact lens hygiene fundamentals are:
1. Only use clean, washed & dried hands, to handle your lenses.
2. Always rub & rinse your contact lenses before storing in disinfecting solution
3. Don't top up solution in your case - use fresh solution every time & don't leave your contact lens solution bottles open - make sure they are closed correctly after use.
4. Follow the wearing & replacement schedules your optometrist has recommended.
5. Discard your lens case at least every three months.
6. Do not use tap water to store, clean or rinse your lenses or case, it is a source of infectious microorganisms.
7. Avoid exposing your lenses to contamination from pools & spas - wear goggles, avoid splashes or don't wear your contact lenses.
